The Affordable Care Act, also known as the comprehensive healthcare law, was created to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for everyone. Since taking effect in March 2010, it has helped millions of individuals and families find coverage that fits their needs and budget.

Here’s what the ACA does:

Makes coverage more affordable – Provides premium tax credits (subsidies) to lower monthly insurance costs for individuals and families earning between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
Even if your income is above 400% FPL, you may still qualify for savings.
Expands Medicaid coverage – Allows more adults with incomes below 138% of the FPL to qualify for Medicaid.
(Some states have not yet expanded their Medicaid programs.)
Improves healthcare quality – Supports new and innovative ways of delivering care to help reduce costs and improve patient outcomes.
